GENERAL MARTIAL ARTS FAQs
General Questions
Q: What is Taekwondo (ITF) and how is it different from Karate, Jiu Jitsu or other martial arts?
We proudly teach the International Taekwondo Federation (ITF) style of Taekwondo, a traditional Korean martial art known for its dynamic kicks, powerful striking techniques, and effective self-defense. ITF Taekwondo goes far beyond the physical—it’s a discipline rooted in courtesy, perseverance, self-control, and indomitable spirit.
Unlike other sports or martial arts that focus solely on physical ability, ITF Taekwondo develops the whole person—mind, body, and character.
Yes, we said manners—and we mean it.
In today’s world, we see far too many athletes who can run fast, hit hard, or win medals… but lack discipline, respect, and courtesy. Whether it’s in football, soccer, basketball, or even Jiu Jitsu, natural talent and physical strength often go unchecked when it comes to behavior and humility. These are the kids who roll their eyes at adults, bully others on the team, or worse—grow up thinking the rules don’t apply to them. And unfortunately, many end up facing consequences beyond the field or mat.
At Reveal Martial Arts, we believe real strength includes self-control and integrity. Our ITF Taekwondo program blends dynamic striking, forms (patterns), and sparring—but more importantly, we train the “manners muscle.” Students learn how to bow with respect, speak with confidence and courtesy, and carry themselves with honor—on and off the mat.
Because in the end, we’re not just raising champions in sport—we’re helping parents raise champions in life.
And at Reveal Martial Arts, we take it even further. Our program includes proven leadership and character development training—for kids, teens and adult students who want more than just another sport. We teach students to stand tall with confidence, use powerful eye contact, and speak with a clear, commanding voice—skills that carry over into school, home, and life.
Because when you train at Reveal, you’re not just learning martial arts…
You’re becoming the strongest version of yourself.
Q: What are the benefits of practicing Taekwondo martial art?
Training improves fitness, focus, and confidence. Parents tell us their children show more respect at home and school, while adults gain stress relief, flexibility, and strength. Many families search online for ‘karate classes in Southlake,’ ‘karate near Haslet,’ or ‘karate Alliance/North Fort Worth.’ At Reveal Martial Arts we teach ITF Taekwondo, delivering the benefits families expect from ‘karate’—confidence, fitness, and focus—plus an emphasis on powerful kicks, punches, structure, self-respect, goal setting and self-control.
Q: What age can my child start martial arts and do you have classes for adults?
Children can start as young as 4 years old in our specialized kids’ program. We also have dedicated classes for teens and adults.
Q: Will martial arts make my child aggressive?
No. Martial arts teaches respect, discipline, and self-control. Most parents actually see their child become calmer, more focused, and more confident.
Q: Understanding Our Style: Why ITF Taekwondo Offers a Fuller Experience
Taekwondo isn’t “one-size-fits-all.” Two leading styles—ITF (International Taekwondo Federation) and WTF (World Taekwondo)—play very different roles today. WTF’s version is tailored for sparring rules, and sport performance using kicks only. There is very little use of hands for self-defense or bully defense purpose.
In contrast, ITF Taekwondo preserves the martial art’s spirit—combining hand and foot techniques, self-defense, and mental discipline rooted in traditional martial arts, discipline based training, and life-enhancing values of leadership, manners and character development.
That is why parents and adult practitioners often choose ITF Taekwondo—for a martial journey rich in physical development, self-defense, mindset training, cultural tradition, and character building. It’s not just a sport, but a way of life.
