PARENTS OFTEN ASK THESE QUESTIONS

GENERAL MARTIAL ARTS FAQs

General Questions

Q: What is Taekwondo (ITF) and how is it different from Karate or other martial arts?

Taekwondo is a Korean martial art known for dynamic kicks, discipline, and self-defense. At Reveal Martial Arts, we follow the ITF style, which emphasizes proper technique, courtesy, perseverance, and confidence. While Karate and Jiu Jitsu also have great benefits, Taekwondo combines striking, patterns, and sparring to give a complete mind-body workout.

Q: What are the benefits of practicing Taekwondo martial art?

Training improves fitness, focus, and confidence. Parents tell us their children show more respect at home and school, while adults gain stress relief, flexibility, and strength. Many families search online for ‘karate classes in Southlake,’ ‘karate near Haslet,’ or ‘karate Alliance/North Fort Worth.’ At Reveal Martial Arts we teach ITF Taekwondo, delivering the benefits families expect from ‘karate’—confidence, fitness, and focus—plus an emphasis on powerful kicks, punches, structure, self-respect, goal setting and self-control.

Q: What age can my child start martial arts and do you have classes for adults?

Children can start as young as 4 years old in our specialized kids’ program. We also have dedicated classes for teens and adults.

Q: Will martial arts make my child aggressive?

No. Martial arts teaches respect, discipline, and self-control. Most parents actually see their child become calmer, more focused, and more confident.

Classes & Training

Q: What can I expect in my first class?

Expect a friendly introduction, light warm-up, and simple drills. You don’t need experience—we love beginners!

Q: What should I wear to my first class?

Comfortable workout clothes are fine. Boys and men usually wear sweatpants and a t-shirt. Women and girls leggins and a t-shirt. Once enrolled, students receive a uniform (dobok) included in their starter and equipment package.

Q: How often should I train to see results?

Two to three classes per week is ideal for steady progress based on your program.

Q: Is sparring required, and is it safe?

Sparring is introduced gradually with full protective gear. Safety is our #1 priority—our instructors emphasize light control, not hitting hard.

Q: How long does it take to earn a black belt?

On average, 3–5 years with consistent training. Every student’s journey is unique, and we focus on progress, not just the belt.

Q: What values do you teach at Reveal Martial Arts?

We focus on courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control, indomitable spirit, and teamwork. Students learn to apply these values at school, work, and in life.

Q: What is the Taekwondo Student Oath?

Students commit to respecting instructors and peers, never misusing Taekwondo, and becoming champions of freedom and justice.

Q: How do you motivate kids to stay consistent?

Through fun challenges, belt promotions, leadership training, tournament, weapons training, board breaking and a supportive community that cheers every success.
