I'm The Bad Daddy!

Hi parents and students,

Did you know that my two sons are always uneasy and nervous about tournaments?

They flat out told me they don't want to go! Especially our older one, who is about to turn 11 this year. He is becoming a "know-it-all".

The other day he told my wife almost crying that "Dad just signs us up and doesn't even ask us if we want to!"

🥴 I guess I'm the bad daddy!

They have been to like 20 tournaments already. They have been competing since 4 years old!

It should be easy for them to compete! Yet, it's NOT! They get scared and nervous Every. Single. Time. They have to go PEE 5 minutes before competing 🤦‍♂️🤣

So I kinda stopped asking them. I simply say “I signed you up for the upcoming tournament. I will help you practice so you do good”. That's it.

Watch what happens when we put kids to participate in safe and fun challenges.

They rumble for few minutes but then the reality sets in, and they are onboard with it.

It's the same thing with their school. They don't want to go school every day, yet, we make them. Because as parents we know they need it, and it's good for them. They would rather play video games.

I look at tournaments and belt testings the same way. It's another opportunity for my kids to experience success, failure, interacting with adults, their teammates and working on their leadership skills. It's all about performing UNDER PRESSURE.

That is what I want them to experience. Performing under pressure because the more they do it the stronger and more prepared for ADULT LIFE they will become.

And that is the reason I don't ask them; I just tell them. Because I know better than my child what is good for them. Then I focus on supporting them and giving them the tools to handle it.
